The first meeting we will have for the NIC study group will be at 3pm - Oct 23rd at the Green Bean. 341 S Elm St. Greensboro, NC 27401-2603 Please bring a scenario since we will be discussing as a group how we would approach the different scenario's that we encounter in the interpreting field and the ethical consequences that come with making the decision. 1) Know the Code of Conduct 2) Know the NIC Rhubrec 3) PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! * videotape yourself giving answers in ASL to different scenarios, think about how you would approach different scenarios, talk to other interpreters and ask their perspective on how they would approach the scenarios.

Think about how you would answer a question, do you want to give a liner one line answer or do you want to give a well rounded answer that includes the perspective of the stakeholders, the laws, ethics and Code of Professional Conduct tenants that are involved, and how you came to that decision. Here is one way that you can construct your answer, but there are many other ways too that we can brainstorm together. SENSE Scenario: briefly discuss key points in the scenario, key players & the situation. Ethics: what is the conflict involved? How does it tie in to the CPC? Name the Stakeholders: how does it effect everyone in the situation? Who is involved in the situation? Think outside the box, it is not only the interpreter and the consumers! Solution: give different possible approaches to the scenario, then offer one solution and explain why you went with that one. Provide evidence to back your answer up. Evaluate: list the consequences to that decision short term and long term. Inc...
